I am facinated with the coloring of the CWF's. They go so well with my favorite pattens, the very old basic ones, done as scrappy quilts just as if they were made in that era of little available fabric in the South. The North still had cloth available and many beautiful coordinated quilts were made. But the Northern Naval Boycott caused very few ships to enter southern ports and fabric became precious. Sarahe4e

Even though the Civil War was not associated with my country, the effect of it is remembered around the world.

I loved the film "Gone with the Wind" portraying that troubled time.

I also love the quilts and stories that have come from this time in history - the Dear Jane quilt, and the other wonderful books now on the market based on letters from soldiers, and thus all the lovely reproduction fabrics.

I love the colours and style of Civil War fabrics.

Civil war era quilts and their fabrics are my favorite! I'm working on a Dear Jane quilt and collecting up as many civil war fabrics as I can, since it has over 5000 pieces in it! (and I don't want any repeats--Jane did it when fabric was scarce, so I figure I should be able to too nearly 150 years later in our modern world). I call it my quilt college, because I figure once I finish it I will have learned a ton of quilting techniques and I have learned some really great techniques so far.
Fabulous giveaway and I have you listed under giveaways on my www.blogeventsdex.blogspot.com blog. Happy Stitching!

I am just beginning to collect Civil War era repro fabric since learning that my mother's family had a great grand aunt who was a nurse and a supporter of Clara Barton. My g-g aunt's husband was severely injured early in the Civil War and was mustered out of the Army. An elderly family member wrote in a letter that this nurse-aunt send every cent she earned to Clara Barton to support the war effort but the family was not happy that she did this since the family had so little to begin with. None of us ever knew about this branch of the family until recently. This has really spurred me to do a Civil War quilt in tribute to my g-g aunt. So, thank you for the chance to enter your contest!
